ESOL Reflections 29/11/23

Hello readers,

Today I will be reflecting on what we did during ESOL this week. This week, we finished creating a digital book. Our books were all based off of family experiences. My story was about me asking to go to a sleepover and my sister getting jealous. After we finished our books, we got into groups of 5 and told our stories to each other.  After the discussion we answered some questions that were written on a doc; finding the meanings of words and figuring out similarities between the characters in our stories were 2 of the tasks.

During this week I improved my reading and finding out the meaning of words abilities. I also improved my listening skills because I listened to my group’s stories.

ESOL Reflections 13/10/23

Hello readers,

Today I will be reflecting on what we have been doing for ESOL this week. This week, we had two learning intentions:

  • To be able to understand and use new vocabulary from a short story
  • To infer ideas from the text and make connections to the real world

We had to read a text and then use that text to answer 3 sets of questions. The first set of questions were questions about words that were included in the text. We had to answer 4 questions for each word, they were: translation to our own language, the sentence it was from, the definition, and whether it was a verb, noun, adjective, etc. The second set of questions were questions that related to the text. For 1 question we had to find whether the statement that related to the text was true or false. The last task that we had to answer had questions like, “Whose point of view does the text represent? Why do you think the author does this?” We had to answer these questions with sentences that included evidence from the text.

Term 3 Week 10 ESOL Reflections

Hello readers,

Today I will be recapping all the things that we did in ESOL for term 3.

During term 3, we did around 4 activities; speeches, finding the main idea, readworks, and readtheory.

Firstly, for the first 6 weeks, our learning intention was to learn how to properly deliver a speech. Secondly, from weeks 7 to 8, our learning intention was to learn how to find the main idea of a passage, we used read theory for this activity. Finally, for the last two weeks of the term, our learning intention was to develop our reading skills by using readwork activities.

I have learned a lot during this term, from learning how to properly deliver our speeches, to finding out the main idea of a passage. I managed to achieve the learning intentions because I was able to achieve the learning objectives because I managed to deliver my speech, discover the main idea of texts, and develop my reading skills. Next time I will try and do better in my speech by using more body language and looking around the room.

Finding the main idea and knowing how to deliver a speech can really help me in real-life scenarios. For example, when I need to do a speech I can use the things that I have learned to make me look more confident during presentations.

In conclusion, I have enjoyed this term of ESOL, I have learned a lot of new things. I am looking forward to ESOL in term 4.

ESOL Reflections Week 9

15/09/23

Hello readers,

Today I will be reflecting about what I did for ESOL this week. This week our only task was to complete Readowrks activities. The learning intention was to develop our reading skills by using Readworks activities. I learned a lot while I was reading the different types of passages.

Some things I learned were about ants, bees, and the brain. One thing I learned about ants was that they are good for the soil. This is because they holes in the soil, and soil needs air, and air needs space to move around. Something interesting about bees that I learned was that the male bees called drones, are kicked out of the hive during winter, this is due to reason that the Queen Bee and Worker Bees(Female Bees) need more room to be able to survive winter. Lastly, the brain. Did you know that if you are right handed, your left side of the brain is more dominant than the other? And if you are left handed, the right side of the brain is more dominant.

I was able to complete the learning intention because I finished and understood all the passages with a good mark. Next time I will try and get more good scores. One passage that ive read that can help me is the brain one. I have learned some new things about the brain and the information that I have read I can use it for future purposes – biology class.

Thank you for reading my blog post I hope you enjoyed it, and have a great day!!

ESOL reflections 21/7/23

Hello readers,

Today I will be reflecting on a speech presentation that we had to do for ESOL. The speech presentation we had to do was a practice one. We had to write a short speech about what we did during the school holidays. We had to include, an introduction, 4 things we did, and a conclusion. After we had to write down, what went well, what didn’t go well, and what we would do differently next time.

What went well?

I think something that went well for me was that I  managed to gather up the courage to go up and say my speech. I also think that the tone of my voice was good; it wasn’t too quiet or too loud.

What didn’t go well?

Something that didn’t go well was that I was stuttering and not looking up at the audience.

What will you do differently next time?

Next time I will try not to stutter and also memorize my speech so that I wouldn’t have to look down at my speech.

Esol Reflections

Hello readers, today I will be reflecting on what we have done in esol during the term. During the term, one of our learning objectives was mostly based on learning how to listen and understand it. Because of these activities, I have learned how to read or listen to stories and understand them. I have learned multiple things like tips on how to deliver a speech and understand what we have read. I will apply my learning in real life by understanding more texts.  Thank you for reading my blog, I hope you enjoyed it and have an awesome day!!

Esol Reflection

Hello readers,

Today during ESOL I read about the Titanic. The book I read was about the titanic, it had its features, information about what happened to it and other stuff like the people on board the ship. The Titanic had lots of people on board from rich to poor. There were also some stowaways on the ship. I also learned about who the captain was. The captain’s name is Edward Smith. I am interested in this book and will try and finish it, my goal is to finish the book by the end of this week.
